Snips, Shears, Clippers
Snips are definitely one of those tools that are just downright essential and you can never have enough. I have a good mix of low priced clippers and nicer ones that I know will last me for years and switch them out based on the job I’m doing. After lots of trial and error, these are my favs.
From left to right above:
Joyce Chen kitchen scissors: these ones kinda do it all! My favorite for prepping designs - trimming ends, cutting ribbon, etc. I wouldn’t recommend them for woody stems or harvesting, they are studio scissors for me.
Leize Snips: The workorse of the studio and always in my bag for jobs on site. Can never have enough. They’re strong, so it’s tempting to use them to cut chicken wire in a pinch but that will definitely wear them out faster. They also come in tons of different colors if you’re like me and like to keep things on brand ;)
Felco Pruners: My must-have for the field. The blunt end won’t stab stems while harvesting (or poke a hole in your pants!), they’re lightweight, and the perfect hand size. I love my coronas too, but I do feel like they’re a bit heavy in hand and always reach for these if they’re available. Also work great in the studio!
