Seed Starting Supplies our favorite things Jan 27 Written By Natalie Geehr Trays These are my favorite trays. I wish they came in bigger sizes, but the fact that they have silicon bottoms and can go in the dishwasher are huge pluses for me. They’re so sturdy and it’s nice to know I can use them for years. Soil I use this soil mix for seed starting in trays. Sprinkle fine vermiculite on top to maintain moisture levels and keep algae at bay. Heat Mats I started with these heating mats 2 years ago and haven’t had to buy any since. They get the job done! Lights I have a ton of these lights from Lowe’s. They aren’t the strongest but they’re the only ones that don’t overload the power in my potting shed ;) I like to start sweet peas in these deep root trainers. They’re expensive, but I bought three that I’ve had for 3 growing seasons now. They open up so you don’t disturb the tap root when transplanting. Tools for Cuttings I use this x-acto knife to take dahlia cuttings, and this rooting powder before i nestle them into their soil. A little goes a long way, have had this jar forever! Tagging Pen This pen is what I use for all my labels in the field. It lasts through sun, rain, and time! Notes on clippers here. seed startingseed traysheat matsseedlingsJanuaryFebruaryMarchAprilAugustSeptemberOctoberNovemberDecember Natalie Geehr
